From the Desk of The President

March 2009

Parents, Players and Friends of Oak Ridge Little League:

This may not be Arizona, but all Oak Ridge Teams have reported to Spring Training at our local city and school district field sites. In all 27 Oak Ridge Teams are now preparing for regular season play (Softball, T Ball, Rookies, Minors, Majors and Juniors). Our Seniors and Big League Teams will report for training in May.

This year we have 81 committed volunteers in the manager & coaching ranks that have stepped up to assure the players are properly taught and come together as a team.. We also then have our volunteer Team Moms on board to coordinate team parent support for their respective teams and assist the League in our concession operations at the Anderson & Bernal snack shacks.

I want to thank our Player Agent, Anjanette Devito  and Vice-President, David Farace as well as our Division Directors Ken Lane, Roger Erolini, Craig Garcia & Rich Bauer for their hard work in organizing our 2009 tryouts and formation of teams.

Our next major step is to assemble our volunteer umpires from our managers, coaches and team parents. Please do consider volunteering as an umpire, as it’s a nexus for a successful season. An umpire clinic has been arranged for Sunday March 8 at Anderson Field. Please join us to support our efforts to assure we have a minimum of two umpires  available for our Softball, Minors, Majors and Junior games.

Our 1st Annual Oak Ridge Little League Spaghetti Feed & Family Day is March 15 noon to 4 PM at the Oak Grove Youth Football Bingo Hall at 701 Alma Ave off Monterey Road. A great bargain at $5 per person for a meal, raffle for outstanding prizes, team recognition & uniform distribution. This is also an opportunity to meet your neighbors, board members and other volunteers.

Our Opening Day is currently being planned and will be held on Staurday, March 21. Our players will arrive at 8:30 AM and our festivities begin at 9 AM followed by that famous phrase “Play Ball! and 2 Major division games as well as a full bill of T-Ball games that day.

I want to say thank you to all our parents for their continued support of our youth baseball & softball program.

I look forward to seeing you around the fields and concession stands this season.

Henry
